Virginia Union University, a historically black institution located in Richmond, Virginia, was formed in 1899 from the union of two Baptist theological institutes. Today, the university continues to promote both the intellectual and spiritual development of its ethnically diverse student body. A strong liberal arts foundation is a central facet in this holistic approach to higher education, as is a respect for cultural diversity.
Virginia Union University offers particularly strong programs in theology and Christian ministries. At the same time, it fosters applied skills in business, science, and technology, with programs in applied sciences, business, education, and social sciences. The university maintains a commitment to undergraduate teaching. In addition, Virginia Union University supports faculty research, community outreach programs, online learning opportunities, and adult continuing education.
