Virginia State University’s President Keith T. Miller presents legendary television actor Malcom- Jamal Warner ( most known for his role as Theo on the Cosby Show) as he shares his views on education with the help of the VSU family. Produced by the Office of the President at Virginia State University.

Overview

Virginia State University carries the distinction of being the first state-supported four-year institution in the United States for African-Americans. Founded in 1882, VSU established its academic reputation under the guidance of John Mercer Langston, a strong advocate for black education and Virginia’s first African-American representative to be elected to Congress. Since then, VSU has graduated an impressive roster of African-American business leaders, artists, and public servants. Among its alumni, VSU counts the first African-American to serve on the New Jersey Supreme Court, a president of the National Education Association, Chairman and CEO of Consolidated Bank and Trust, jazz musician Billy Taylor, and a number of high-ranking military leaders.
