Paul Quinn College

Like other historically black colleges, Paul Quinn College owes its creation to a group of resourceful ministers from the 19th century. As the African Methodist Episcopal Church made inroads to the southwestern United States, ministers selected Waco, Texas as the site of a new campus, to replace an overgrown campus in Austin. With its formal opening to students in 1882, PQC remains the oldest liberal arts black college in Texas. Today, school leaders aim to become the premier historically black college in the Lone Star state.

Moving to Dallas in 1990 allowed Paul Quinn College to serve even more members of Texas’ African-American community. Throughout its recent history, the school has grown by making it easy for students throughout north Texas to transfer from community colleges and earn four-year degrees. With strong academic programs and support from alumni, PQC continues its mission to enhance the quality of its students’ lives.
