DISTRICT #7 MIDDLE SCHOOL INITIATIVE TO ENSURE EVERY STUDENT COLLEGE READY
Los Angeles, CA Dec.17, 2008– LAUSD Local District #7 has selected EDU, Inc. to implement a Minority Middle School Male Initiative (3MI). EDU, Inc. is a company renowned for the COMMON BLACK COLLEGE APPLICATION and has been contracted by the District for the past four years to increase the educational options for high school students in the Los Angeles area.
In addition to facilitating the use of the application, EDU, Inc. recruiters conduct ongoing visits to the high schools throughout District #7 counseling students on the college application and financial aid processes. The visits to the high schools revealed the need to reach back to the middle schools in an attempt to ensure that “every student is college ready.”
The mission of 3MI is to create a sense of self awareness and community among minority middle school males while promoting the importance of education. The program will have the students participate in both on campus and off campus activities. Topics during group discussions will range from Self Respect to Conflict Management.
Scheduled off campus activities will include trips to the following:
Black College Expo –
Saturday, December 15, 2008
Students will also be asked to participate in a community service project.
“The guiding principles of trustworthiness, dedication, respect, and scholarship give some example of what will be required of the 3MI participants,” says Robert Mason, President of EDU, Inc. ”We know that students respond to a program that “expects” them to develop and achieve.”
