Johnson C. Smith University

Johnson C. Smith University is a private historically black college located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded in 1867 by two Presbyterian ministers. Today, it is consistently ranked in the top tier among Southern universities. Johnson C. Smith’s Charlotte location means that students can easily access both mountains and the beach.

Johnson C. Smith grants bachelor’s degrees in arts, sciences, and social work. The school is divided into two colleges, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Professional Studies, as well as an Honors College. Johnson C. Smith University is part of the IBM Thinkpad University program, which gifts a Thinkpad laptop to every incoming student. It is the first black college to join the program.
