Clark Atlanta University, in Atlanta, Georgia was formed in 1988 by the consolidation of two historically black colleges: Atlanta University (founded in 1865), which offered only graduate degrees, and Clark College (founded in 1869), a four-year liberal arts college. From the beginning, the school has been affiliated with the United Baptist Church.
Clark Atlanta University offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in four different areas: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Social Work. The university’s focus areas–teaching, service, and research–are all intended to help students create an American and global society that is responsive to human needs. The historically black college is classified as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 2000, and has recently been mentioned by U.S. News and World Report and Black Enterprise magazine.
